Teaching our Students about Citizenship...

November's character trait is "Citizenship" and in an effort to teach our students about supporting their community and country we are participating in the Samaritan's Purse project, known as "Operation Christmas Child."

Below are some facts about this project and how it works. We believe this is a project our students will enjoy participating in and it will help them more fully understand the concept of citizenship through giving of their time and resources to children in need.

Connection with Citizenship...

Students are learning "You can demonstrate good citizenship by being a person who is involved in trying to make the community, nation, or world a better place. You can also show good citizenship by considering the needs of others in your community, home, or school."

Each family who participates in this endeavor through sending items or packing a shoebox will receive volunteer hours for the month of November. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Please note, shoeboxes and/or items for the shoeboxes are due by Wednesday, November 10. Thank you for your help in promoting citizenship at our school!

What is Operation Christmas Child?

The Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child collects shoebox gifts—filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items—and delivers them to children in need around the world. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, has collected and delivered more than 188 million shoebox gifts to children in more than 170 countries and territories.

In 2021, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 9.7 million children in countries like Peru, the Philippines, Rwanda and Ukraine.

You Can Participate in Three Ways...

- Send in individual supplies to be put in shoeboxes at school.
- Pack a shoebox with your family at home.
