In-Person Learning Plan

At Bethel Hill Charter School, the health and safety of our students and staff are our highest priority. Due to a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in Person County and surrounding areas, increased transmission of the Delta variant, and our student population not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, the following mitigation efforts will be in place when we return to school:

- All students, staff, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status will be required to wear face masks while indoors.

  • This is a board decision that will be revisited monthly.
  • Masks will be worn while on the bus.
  • Masks are not required to be worn outside.
  • Masks will be provided for all students who do not bring one from home.

- Physical distancing of a minimum of three feet will occur during lunchtimes to the fullest extent possible.

- Signs will be posted and visible throughout the building to remind students of proper infection control practices.

- High-touch surfaces will be cleaned regularly.

- Hand sanitizer will be provided in common areas and classrooms.

- Water fountains will not be open for drinking; only re-filling water bottles.

Students and staff who have symptoms of COVID-19, should stay home and be referred to their healthcare provider for testing and care. Staying home when sick is essential to keep infections out of school and prevent spread to others. Please note the following symptoms:

-Fever (temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher)

-Sore throat

-Cough (a change in cough for people with chronic cough due to allergies or asthma)

-Difficulty breathing (a change in their baseline breathing for people with asthma)

-New loss of taste or smell

-Diarrhea or vomiting

-New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever

In the event your child is experiencing these symptoms, we ask that they do not come to school until they have been assessed by a healthcare provider.

If your child exhibits COVID-19 symptoms at school, we will escort the child to our front office waiting room, the parent/guardians will be contacted as we will ask for you to check your child out and seek medical attention from your healthcare provider.

Isolation is required for all presumptive or confirmed cases of COVID-19. Quarantine is required for an individual who has been a close contact of someone who is determined positive with COVID-19, with the following exceptions:

-Individuals who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms do NOT need to quarantine after a close contact. Individual should get tested 3-5 days after exposure and wear a mask around others until receiving a negative test result.

-People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered and do not have symptoms do NOT have to quarantine.

-Students who are not fully vaccinated, after a close contact in a classroom or other school setting, if masks were being worn appropriately and consistently by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed person – the exposed person does NOT need to quarantine.

At this time, we will not be conducting screenings (temperature checks and attestation forms) in the mornings upon arrival and entering the bus. We are asking families to conduct home-based symptom screening for students and keeping children home when ill.

Please note that these efforts are subject to change based upon updates given to Bethel Hill Charter by NCDHHS (North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services) through the NC Strong Schools Toolkit, and the Person County Health Department. Our Board of Directors will revisit these on a monthly basis and make a decision based upon the safety and needs of our school.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and support as we prepare for a new school year
